Fokker E.III Eindecker 105/15, mono wing fighter. Believed to be the plane flown by Vizefeldwebel Ernst Udet when he scored his first aerial victory. Udet ended the war with 62 confirmed victories, the most successful air ace to survive the Great War. The Eindecker was the first aeroplane specifically designed to hunt other aeroplanes. Able to fire its machine gun through the arc of the prop, the pilot just had to aim his plane at the target and shoot. Diecast metal model with plastic parts. Bristol F2B Fighter D8084/S. Australian pilot Capt. Sydney Dalrymple and Gunner 2/Lt. G. Beagle, RAF No.139 Squadron, Villaverla, Italy. On 8th August 1918, Dalrymple and Beagle shot down two Aviatik D.1 Berg Fighters. In a later mission, they shot down two Albatros D.IIIs, earning Dalrymple a DFC. Fokker D VII (OAW) Ltn. Kurt Monnington, Jasta 18, Montingen, August 1918. The D.VII was the Deutsche Luftstreitkrfte's most capable fighter and one of the finest fighting aeroplanes of WWI. With ample power and exceptional low speed performance, the D. VII proved to be a massive thorn in the side of Allied air superiority. While not as streamlined as an Albatros D.Va nor as menacing looking as a Fokker Dr.1, it proved to be a thoroughbred fighting machine, respected and feared by Allied airmen. In August 1918 alone, Fokker D.VIIs accounted for 565 Allied aircraft destroyed. Manufacturing was conducted by Fokker at Schwerin, Albatros at Johannisthal, and Osterdeutsche Albatros Werke (OAW) in Poland. Luftstreitkrfte aircraft were typically brightly coloured with highly distinctive markings, mainly to aid combat recognition, but also as an expression of their pilot's confidence and fighting prowess. Jasta 18 were known as the 'Red Noses' and most of the fighters had the black raven insignia on either side of their fuselage. Kurt Monnington also had a skull and crossbones on his aircraft, and ended the war with eight confirmed victories. Westland Lysander Mk.III (SD) RAF No 161 Sqn. Piloted by "Lucky" Newhouse during Operation Scimitar on 4/5th August 1944. An unusual feature being the D-Day markings around its rear fuselage rather than on its wings. The Lysander's short take-off and landing (STOL) abilities made it ideal for using small improvised airstrips behind enemy lines in occupied France. Lysanders of RAF No.161 Squadron made a significant contribution towards the success of the Allied invasion of France, flying perilous 'Spy Shuttle' operations. Originally intended as a medium-high altitude interceptor, the Typhoon was the only RAF fighter in mid-1941 capable of catching the Focke Wulf Fw-190 at low altitudes. Typhoons succeeded in roles such as night-time intruder, long-range fighter, fighter-bomber, and when later fitted with RP-3 rockets and four 20mm Hispano auto-cannon, it became one of WWII's most successful ground attack aircraft. JB II, fitted-out with rocket projectiles, was one of two Typhoons assigned to Baldwin. The other was equipped with bombs. This Douglas DC-3/C-47 has had a long and interesting life. Constructed in 1942 as a C47-DL she was sent overseas in 1943. After the war she was purchased by a former WWII pilot and nicknamed “Betsy”. In 1946 she became Cathay Pacific Airways first ever aircraft, and registered as VR-HDB. After being sold in the 1950's she spent the best part of 30 years flying cargo in the Australian outback, before being discovered and repurchased by Cathay Pacific. 1937 Rolls Royce Phantom III from the 1964 James Bond movie "Goldfinger". The car used by bad guy, Auric Goldfinger. The cool thing is that many of its parts were made from melted-down/recast gold. From the outside it looked like your standard family runabout V12, 4-speed manual, Rolls, but....it allowed Goldfinger to travel internationally and smuggle gold at the same time.
